Dear Parents and Students,
Happy New Year and welcome back!! I hope you all had a wonderful break and were able to spend some quality time with friends and family. I’m super excited to begin our second semester and we are going to be hitting the ground running!
LGPE Camp
Our LGPE camp is this coming Saturday, January 11 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This is a required event for all orchestra students and has been on the calendar since August. I know camp will be very beneficial for students to get some extra help and insights for our upcoming LGPE performances next month. Students will engage in rehearsals, a sectional, and a sight-reading workshop. At the camp there will be an after party that includes some fun activities and a pizza dinner. Details will be coming soon on this and there will be an RSVP for the after party.I am aware that there may be a winter storm coming and that it could possibly impact school on Friday and our camp on Saturday. I will keep up with the latest news and any advisories set by the district. I will keep you posted!
SPRING TRIP TO DOLLYWOOD – ACTION REQUIRED!!
Next, I want to remind you about our Spring Trip to Dollywood that is scheduled for March 28-30. In order for this trip to take place and for students to reserve their spot, we will need to have the initial deposits paid by Sunday, January 12. If we do not make the minimum count for this trip, it will be canceled. More information, including our tentative itinerary and links to make your deposit can be found on our website at https://www.lassiterorchestra.org/spring-trip
MICROSOFT TEAMS & ASSIGNMENTS
Last, students will continue using Microsoft Teams exclusively for announcements, discussions, assessments, and more. Every student should have Teams installed on their preferred device with notifications enabled. The first assignment of the semester, Practice Vlog #1, is due by this Friday, January 10. Assignments will be more frequent, have shorter turn-around times, and will be more rigorous. I know students can put in more effort to better themselves and the Lassiter Orchestras. I think MS Teams will help keep students organized and will allow for easy video submission via phone, tablet, or laptop.
