Spooktacular 2016! ? We did it again! 2nd successful “Spooktacular” clinic! 6th graders from the Mabry and Simpson, Middle School orchestras came to Lassiter to work with proficient string instructors and had fun participating in a Donut Run, Musical Chairs, Costume and Cupcake contests. Our own Lassiter students volunteers were there assisting clinicians and coordinating all the games and activities. Upcoming 9th Grade Nexus Concert on Tue, Nov 1stThe Freshman Phil and Chamber I orchestras will be performing along with the Mabry and Simpson 8th Grade Orchestras. Call time is 6:40pm. Concert attire is Orchestra t-shirts and jeans. All Lassiter Orchestra members are invited to attend to support our future orchestra members! Harrison Cook, cellist and Simpson’s new assistant orchestra director, will be performing “The Swan” from St. Saens Carnival of the Animals. We will take a mass picture on stage with ALL students following the concert so everyone wear your orchestra shirt. Don’t miss it! Lassiter Orchestra 2nd Semester Auditions Wed, Nov 9thStudents will be assigned an audition time for this evening. In order to properly evaluate our young musicians, we hire a large number of adjudicators for this event. Please let the directors know right away if there is an issue with your child attending their time that evening as it’s extremely difficult to “make up” a missed audition. If your child is not currently with an LSA instructor, now is a great time to start lessons! String AcademyLSA payments for November are due on Tuesday. There will be no lessons on November 8 and the week of Thanksgiving. There are three Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday LSA November lessons and four Wednesday lessons. Field TripThe Lassiter Orchestra has been offered a special opportunity to attend a closed rehearsal of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on November 10th. Our students will be observing the ASO in rehearsal with Maestro Robert Spano and Concertmaster David Coucheron as soloist. You can view the program here.

Update on Cruise trip – next payment due Nov 11th, Trip meeting Nov 15th!The Lassiter Orchestra Spring Cruise Trip is scheduled for March 29 – April 3, 2017. For students & chaperones making this tripIt is highly recommended those traveling internationally possess a valid U.S. Passport, even though the rules require only a birth certificate and a photo ID for cruises sailing a closed circuit from the U.S. (meaning the ship departs and arrives back to the U.S. following all port calls). Having a passport will make life a lot easier if the ship needs to travel to a different port other than what is on the itinerary due to weather, or if a flight home from Nassau becomes necessary in the event of an emergency. Applying for a passport is easy and can be done online here.
Please make all checks for the trip payable to LHSOA with your child’s name in the memo and a payment coupon, and turn in to the brown drop box it in the front of the orchestra room or mail them to: Payment Plan for Spring Cruise Trip 2017: Payment #1: $200 due by October 14 Students will be rooming in quad-occupancy rooms and they should have already signed-up for rooms last week.
