Lassiter Orchestra’s Pre-LGPE Concert
Large Group Performance Evaluations
Recognized authorities in the field of music education critique the participation of each ensemble providing their written and/or oral opinions in terms of a standard of excellence in performance and sight-reading and comments/suggestions to improve the ensemble’s skills. Additionally, LGPE offers students and teachers the opportunity of extended listening to the best work from other orchestra programs in our county. As LHSOA hosts the LGPE for our county, please plan to hear the students at their performance evaluations right here in the Lassiter Concert Hall.
Following is the schedule of the Lassiter Orchestra performances:
- Monday, 2/13 5:45pm Chamber I
- Tuesday, 2/14 2pm Sinfonia II
- Tuesday, 2/14 4pm Chamber II

How Mulch Money Can We Raise?
Springtime is just around the corner; birds begin to sing, flowers begin to bloom, and self-respecting suburban gardeners everywhere begin to spread mulch. Who better to deliver this mulch needed commodity than the musicians of the Lassiter High School Orchestra!
Your volunteer team is seeking an energetic orchestra family member who loves mulch so mulch, she or he is willing to donate some time and energy to helping our orchestra with some mulch needed fundraising. The best part about this job is that it’s a short-term project without any long-term commitments. Plant the fundraiser, execute the fundraiser, have fun, go home. Easy!
If you love spending time in the garden, if you love your orchestra, and if you love giving something back to a program that gives so mulch to your student, then this is the job for you.

A Message from your President
Anyone who was involved with music in high school will attest, the experience remains with you for a lifetime in the form of memories, friends, and musical skills. As a LHSOA Board Member, being a part of the orchestra process provides both a sense of belonging and a sense of community in doing work for the greater good of our school and the Lassiter music program. It is in this spirit that I ask those of you who want to be a part of your student’s experience and have an interest in giving something back to the orchestra, to step forward and become involved. We have members of the LHSOA Board who are either graduating or rotating off this year, which presents several opportunities for others to become more involved with the Association’s governance and operations.
We are all very busy both with home and professional responsibilities, however, I ask that all of you wonderful parents and caregivers consider making a bit more room in your busy schedules to become a more integral part of this wonderful orchestra. Some jobs take only an hour or so per week, and some take only a couple hours per month, and many event roles require only a few hours per quarter, so please consider jumping-in and lending your time and talents in whichever way is most meaningful to you.
The nominating committee for Board positions will convene very soon. To express an interest in serving on either a committee or as an officer on the Board, please send an email to the Nominating Committee Chair, Ajit Kahaduwe, at webmaster@lhsoa.org.
Thank you for your consideration.
Musically yours,
Jonathan Warner

Carnival Cruise Spring Trip Meeting was on Tuesday, November 15 Update: 2017 Cruise Trip Information Packet
For students & chaperones making this trip
It is highly recommended those traveling internationally possess a valid U.S. Passport, even though the rules require only a birth certificate and a photo ID for cruises sailing a closed circuit from the U.S. (meaning the ship departs and arrives back to the U.S. following all port calls). Having a passport will make life a lot easier if the ship needs to travel to a different port other than what is on the itinerary due to weather, or if a flight home from Nassau becomes necessary in the event of an emergency. Applying for a passport is easy and can be done online here.
It is also recommended that travelers have a passport photo taken by AAA Auto Club on Gordy Parkway, another travel agent, or a drugstore such as Walgreens or CVS for around $10. The State Department website has a self-photo tool, but it is a challenge to use and there have been instances of applications being returned due to invalid photos. For those who have a passport, please ensure it does not expire within 6 months of our return from the trip. It takes about 6 weeks to process a passport application.
Please make all checks for the trip payable to LHSOA with your child’s name in the memo and a payment coupon, and turn in to the brown drop box it in the front of the orchestra room or mail them to:
