Upcoming Pre-LGPE Concert and LGPE Performances

We are excited at the wonderful progress of our 4 orchestras in their preparation for Thursday’s Pre-LGPE Concert at 7pm and ultimately, their LGPE performances. We are providing a schedule for the LGPE, February 13-15 for each orchestra, as each ensemble’s schedule is different. Additionally, the orchestra is displaced due to the LGPE event. This schedule addresses all 4 orchestra and the expectations for the LGPE event for those three days. The schedule is subject to change and will be provided again in the next TWA, however we want parents and students to be thinking about this now for planning purposes.
2017 LGPE Student Schedule

A few reminders:  Please have student’s clothing in a garment bag that is marked CLEARLY with their name.  Make sure your son/daughter has black dress shoes (closed-toe for the girls) and black socks (for the boys).  Tennis shoes (even if black) are not permitted and can actually hurt our score under “General Effect” (yes, this has happened!).
Please direct any questions to Carol.Doemel@cobbk12.org.

We are very proud of our orchestras and look forward to their upcoming performances! Hope to see family and friends at the concert and evaluations at our Lassiter Concert Hall.

Still in Mulch need of a Project Manager for our Mulch Fundraiser

Springtime is just around the corner; birds begin to sing, flowers begin to bloom, and self-respecting suburban gardeners everywhere begin to spread mulch.  Who better to deliver this “mulch” needed commodity than the musicians of the Lassiter High School Orchestra!

Your volunteer team is still seeking an energetic orchestra family member who is willing to donate some time and energy to helping our orchestra with some mulch needed fundraising.  The best part about this job is that it’s a short-term project without any long-term commitments.  Plant the fundraiser, execute the fundraiser, have fun, go home.  Easy!

If you love spending time in the garden, if you love your orchestra, and if you love giving something back to a program that gives so much to your student, then this is the job for you.

Interested?  Please contact Kim Jones for details.  Thank you very mulch!

Show your Orchestra Spirit!

Would you like to recognize your Lassiter musician and show pride in your orchestra in a colorful way? It is free for Seniors and just $25 for others. The LHSOA will come to your home and stencil our LHSO logo on your driveway. If you would like to have your driveway stenciled, please download the LHSO Driveway Stenciling Permission Form, fill it out, and deposit it, along with a check to the LHSOA lock-box in the orchestra room. Please e-mail Sharon Powers with any questions you have on this project.

Lassiter String Academy Volunteer Needed

Is your student taking advantage of the awesome Lassiter String Academy, and would you like to lend a hand with its operation?
The LSA Coordinator works with Academy string teachers and the orchestra director to schedule after school lessons and track payments.  The LSA Coordinator is also a member of the Board, which provides an opportunity to participate in the governance of the LHSOA.  This is an immediate need, so please give this some consideration and if interested, please contact Ms. Doemel at Carol.DOEMEL@cobbk12.org

Still seeking volunteers to serve on a committee or the Board

A Message from your President
Anyone who was involved with music in high school will attest, the experience remains with you for a lifetime in the form of memories, friends, and musical skills.  As a LHSOA Board Member, being a part of the orchestra process provides both a sense of belonging and a sense of community in doing work for the greater good of our school and the Lassiter music program.  It is in this spirit that I ask those of you who want to be a part of your student’s experience and have an interest in giving something back to the orchestra, to step forward and become involved.  We have members of the LHSOA Board who are either graduating or rotating off this year, which presents several opportunities for others to become more involved with the Association’s governance and operations.

We are all very busy both with home and professional responsibilities, however, I ask that all of you wonderful parents and caregivers consider making a bit more room in your busy schedules to become a more integral part of this wonderful orchestra.  Some jobs take only an hour or so per week, and some take only a couple hours per month, and many event roles require only a few hours per quarter, so please consider jumping-in and lending your time and talents in whichever way is most meaningful to you.

The nominating committee for Board positions will convene very soon.  To express an interest in serving on either a committee or as an officer on the Board, please send an email to the Nominating Committee Chair, Ajit Kahaduwe, at webmaster@lhsoa.org.

Thank you for your consideration.

Musically yours,

Jonathan Warner

Carnival Cruise Spring Trip Meeting was on Tuesday, November 15 Update: 2017 Cruise Trip Information Packet

For students & chaperones making this trip

It is highly recommended those traveling internationally possess a valid U.S. Passport, even though the rules require only a birth certificate and a photo ID for cruises sailing a closed circuit from the U.S. (meaning the ship departs and arrives back to the U.S. following all port calls). Having a passport will make life a lot easier if the ship needs to travel to a different port other than what is on the itinerary due to weather, or if a flight home from Nassau becomes necessary in the event of an emergency. Applying for a passport is easy and can be done online here.
It is also recommended that travelers have a passport photo taken by AAA Auto Club on Gordy Parkway, another travel agent, or a drugstore such as Walgreens or CVS for around $10. The State Department website has a self-photo tool, but it is a challenge to use and there have been instances of applications being returned due to invalid photos. For those who have a passport, please ensure it does not expire within 6 months of our return from the trip. It takes about 6 weeks to process a passport application.

Please make all checks for the trip payable to LHSOA with your child’s name in the memo and a payment coupon, and turn in to the brown drop box it in the front of the orchestra room or mail them to:
