A note from the Director

Dear LHSO Families,
I’m so proud of the wonderful work accomplished by our 4 orchestras during the LGPE preparation and performances.  Preparing demanding literature so early in the semester is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our young musicians. Winter Camp preparation, before and after school sectionals and rehearsals, and playing test submissions brought our students to a new level of musicianship culminating in highly musical and memorable performances by all ensembles.  That being said, it was not a surprise that all 4 ensembles received straight Superior ratings by our distinguished adjudication panel.  A well-earned CONGRATULATIONS to our student musicians!
As LHSOA hosts the LGPE 3-day event (49 Cobb County orchestras), I’d like to offer a very special “thank you” to our fabulous LHSOA parents who not only kept LGPE on time and managed the orchestras and their directors so well, but also took care of meals and “caring for” our adjudication panel, our Cobb County Music Supervisor, and the technical staff.  LHSOA could not host an event of this nature without YOUR time, energy, and support.   At every turn, I was stopped by a judge, director, parent, or someone who was thanking us for our generosity and professionalism.  Additionally, thank you to all Lassiter Orchestra students who worked the event.  You are the fabric of our organization and it doesn’t go unnoticed!

Sincerely,
Carol Doemel, Director of Orchestras

Still in Mulch need of a Project Manager for our Mulch Fundraiser

Springtime is just around the corner; birds begin to sing, flowers begin to bloom, and self-respecting suburban gardeners everywhere begin to spread mulch.  Who better to deliver this mulch needed commodity than the musicians of the Lassiter High School Orchestra!

Your volunteer team is still seeking an energetic orchestra family member who is willing to donate some time and energy to helping our orchestra with some mulch needed fundraising.  The best part about this job is that it’s a short-term project without any long-term commitments.  Plant the fundraiser, execute the fundraiser, have fun, go home.  Easy!

If you love spending time in the garden, if you love your orchestra, and if you love giving something back to a program that gives so mulch to your student, then this is the job for you.
Interested?  Please contact Kim Jones for details.  Thank you very mulch!

Show your Orchestra Spirit!

Would you like to recognize your Lassiter musician and show pride in your orchestra in a colorful way? It is free for Seniors and just $25 for others. The LHSOA will come to your home and stencil our LHSO logo on your driveway. If you would like to have your driveway stenciled, please download the LHSO Driveway Stenciling Permission Form, fill it out, and deposit it, along with a check to the LHSOA lock-box in the orchestra room. Please e-mail Sharon Powers with any questions you have on this project.

Still seeking volunteers to serve on a committee or the Board

A Message from your President

Anyone who was involved with music in high school will attest, the experience remains with you for a lifetime in the form of memories, friends, and musical skills.  As a LHSOA Board Member, being a part of the orchestra process provides both a sense of belonging and a sense of community in doing work for the greater good of our school and the Lassiter music program.  It is in this spirit that I ask those of you who want to be a part of your student’s experience and have an interest in giving something back to the orchestra, to step forward and become involved.  We have members of the LHSOA Board who are either graduating or rotating off this year, which presents several opportunities for others to become more involved with the Association’s governance and operations.

We are all very busy both with home and professional responsibilities, however, I ask that all of you wonderful parents and caregivers consider making a bit more room in your busy schedules to become a more integral part of this wonderful orchestra.  Some jobs take only an hour or so per week, and some take only a couple hours per month, and many event roles require only a few hours per quarter, so please consider jumping-in and lending your time and talents in whichever way is most meaningful to you.

The nominating committee for Board positions will convene very soon.  To express an interest in serving on either a committee or as an officer on the Board, please send an email to the Nominating Committee Chair, Ajit Kahaduwe, at webmaster@lhsoa.org.

Thank you for your consideration.

Musically yours,

Jonathan Warner
