  1. I think the violins sounded good at the beginning and our ending was good. I also think we did good with the rhythms.

but I think we need to work on dynamics as well as in measures 34-39, we were definitely not together. There was some questionable intonation at measures 65 and 69 from the cellos and basses.

  2. Constructive:
    1. Intonation and togetherness during first 23 measures needs improvement
    2. Measures 63 and 64 for seconds needs improvement

    Positive:
    1. Ending sounds good
    2. 55-61 sounds good

  3. positive – the beginning overall sounds pretty good, transition from slow part to fast part sounds amazing, ending sounds great

constructive – violas need to be a bit more in tune m. 1-8, first violins need to be more precise with the 8th notes m 39-40, first violins need to stay on tempo m 42-6, seconds (I think) need to be louder at 63, firsts need to practice the rhythms at 66-73

  4. Constructive:
-cellos out of tune at measure 24
    -cellos rushing/off tempo at 47-58
-cellos not together at 41 and 69

    Positive:
    -Ending was good
-balance was pretty good, just cellos need to be louder at 84(ff)

  5. The cellos did a good job staying together entering the fast section. The violins have good dynamics. The violas need to be a little louder when they first come in. We all fell apart a little at 47-51, and afterwards it stayed slightly off and not as good as the slow section. The notes during 61-79 for the cellos are muddled and not very clear.

  6. Positive: We were all together for the most part and there wasn’t too much rushing. The ending of the piece was perfect, everyone was together and the notes were all in tune.
Constructive: Measure 12 was somehow out of tune and off tempo for everyone, but especially violins. Fourth finger A would sound best. The second violins during measures 80-81 were extremely quiet and unconfident. I couldn’t hear us at all.

  7. Measures 74-79 the violins and violas were playing too loud, much louder than the cellos (who had the melody). Measures 47 to 51 the cellos were speeding up or the violins were slowing down I couldn’t tell.

  8. We were very together and in tune from measures 94-the end. We were also very balanced from measures 84 to 90.

  9. Constructive:
    1) In measures 7-23, there could be more balance within the cello section. You can hear individual players instead of a cohesive group.
2)From 47-51 cellos could have a cleaner sound with better intonation.
    Positive:
1)Cellos are in tune and together in measures 35-41, which was previously rough
    2) In the measures 35-56 there is good balance between all sections

  10. This piece has a lovely flow to it, and it seems like the perfect level of difficulty when it comes to perfecting the piece aswell.

  11. * Cello (and possibly based, I’m not sure) soli sounds amazing at 15 and they really are playing with so much confidence. Measure 74-79 sounds really really good with all the parts together, from the accents to the crescendo and decrescendo. Ending sounds pretty confident too.
    * Violas need to watch fingers so insanely very closely from measured 3-14, it need to be precise, accurate, and confident. Violas should get more familiar with the fingerings, notes, and rhythms in faster and more aggressive sections, like 35-61 and 84-end.

  12. starting at measure 3: Violas notes sound off
Beginning for violins was pretty good
measures 6 & 8 for violins are off tempo
Cellos are a bit loud from start to finish

  13. Positive: The beginning sounds nice. 74-81 sounds strong and all the sections are pretty much together.
Constructive: Violas should play more confidently at measure 3. From 47-61 violin 1 should try and play with my flow and all of the bow.

  14. During this piece we definetly did better with tempo and staying in tune. But improvements could definetly be to stay more together, and be in tune.

  15. Positive
-Was well together from 30 till around measure 50.
    -The end was good 85-end.

    Constructive
-The beginning when violas come at measure 3 was so out of tune and not everyone was together till the end of 14.
-It kinda sounds mushy at 70-84 like it needs to be more together and in tune. Violas need to be more in tune and louder on those quarters 80-82 and violins more together 80-83.

  16. Positive: I think the balance was pretty good and at the end we all ended at the same time.
Constructive: Measures 35 to 55 everyone got off tempo. Measure 55 to 61 I feel like we rushed a bit.

  17. Positive:
-1st violins were together at measures 70-74
    -The ending sounded nice 🙂
    Constructive:
-Begining was very weak measures begining- 23
-Measures 55- 60 was not together
-Coming in on 82 was not very confident and some first violins came in early like at 81, we need to count maybe or look up

  18. Positive- Measures 26-27 were very powerful, I liked them a lot- the rhythms and intonation were on point. The ending was also nicely done and had a good strong edge to it.

Constructive Criticism- The beginning NEEDS WORK. It could have been a rough run, but the violas need to be strong and confident, and the violins need to back off to the the violas have their part. Measures 55-58 were very harsh coming from the cello section and need to have a more melodical sense to it, as well as intonation.

  19. Positive: The melodies were clearly articulated throughout the piece and the sections were well balanced most of the time.
Constructive: In the first 5 measures of the piece the violins didn’t reduce their volume after the accents and maintaining such a high volume drowned out the melodies in the other sections. At measure 23 the sections were no longer playing together.

  20. positve: the ending was strong and together. the beginning of our fast part is solid
negative: violas need to work on intonation in the first 15 or so measures. i know the beginning is supposed to be soft, but we sound scared and not confident

  21. -75-80 Sounds really good with all the parts especially the violins coming in the back. Good balance between all the sections.
-35 sounded really good for cellos (intonation and rhythm were on point. Notes Were clear and not mushy.
-3-10 Violas sound a little out of tune and should work on the notes and rhythms.
-48-50 Cellos sound mushy and the notes aren’t clear. A bit of rushing causing it to sound out of tune.

  22. Positive:
1.) We sound together in rhythm when going through tempo changes, like at measure 23.
2.) The ending sounds very clean and neat, especially the last measure of the piece.
    Constructive Comments:
1.) First violins need to work on measure 96 to make sure we can play it up to tempo.
2.) We need to work on dynamics from measures 1-21. Violins are overpowering everyone else with the half notes.

  23. I honestly didn’t know we sounded this good. Hearing everything playing together–we sound good. Everything sounds really nicely balanced.
First violins need to clean up 27-30 a bit, especially with those sixteenth and dotted eighth notes, as well as 70-73, 77. We come apart a bit in those spots. Also at the beginning I think we need to work on the accents–they could be stronger. Also measures 82 and 95 have a very similar pattern and those should be worked on so they come together better.

  24. Positive: we ended together/ the ending (m. 90-98) was pretty much solid. Each section new their parts pretty well
Constructive: I feel like as individual sections we are pretty much solid but as an orchestra there are some things we could do to help put our parts together. In general most sections in the piece aren’t clear. It sounds like a bunch of parts mixed together and you can’t really hear a specific one. For example, I feel like the pickup to twelve wasn’t clear. Some parts were out of tune and a lot was happening for it to just be a pickup, kind of making it seem as if we were lost. Same thing goes in measures 39 and 40 where the first violin open Ds were not clear at all. They were supposed to sound like quarter notes but since we all played at different times, it sounded really mushy. Same thing goes on most of the second page, measure 47-59, the other parts were to loud not allowing us to hear the melody and in measures 73-82 violins and cellos need to work on rhythms and notes because it seemed like it had caught us off guard. The second point is honestly our intonation. The first couple measures (1-11) for the violins sounded very wimpy and out of tune. I think it was mostly that we aren’t changing together. If violins would change together I think it would improve our intonation a lot. 47-51 cellos should also focus on their intonation.

  25. Positive: you can hear all sections playing their parts nicely, we ended together

Constructive: measure 77 for violins needs to be worked on, measure 28 first violins can hold last note longer, 42-47 sounds rushed

  26. Constructive:
    1) I think the 1st violins in measure 42 through measure 45 were not together but were able to do so later on.
    2) In measure 47 the whole orchestra were at different places so it didn’t sound together until we got to measure 55.
    Positive:
1.) The first measures of the piece the orchestra was able to keep the piece mysterious and sound somewhat like a sunrise.
2.) In measures 15-18 and 61-66 violins did really good in the tremolo and I think that was the best played part of the piece.

  27. Positive :
The was a good balance in the beginning between the first and second violins measure 1-12.
The tempo change at measure 23 was definitely improved from previous runs.
    Constructive :
Measures 61-74 are sounding better for second violins but are still not as clear as would be liked.
Measure 17 needs to be worked on for second violins because it was late and nearly not heard.

  28. Cellos play measurers 12-23 well. As a whole orchestra 90 to the end sounded very good. Violins sound great at measures 27-34.

Timing seems off at the measures leading up to 47 but 47 is where it just goes downhill. The majority of the second page needs to be worked on by all sections. Lots of rhythm work.

  29. General:
    – Cellos and bases sounded amazing throughout the piece.
    – Violins did good with dynamics.

    Constructive:
    – Violin 2s were not together measure 47-55.
    – Violin 2s should work on intonation measures 61-64.

  30. *I think cellos sound great in the beginning and open the piece very well. Also when the violins have the melody it’s very solid and confident.
*Measures 61-74 for Violin two needs to be more confident and better in tune. Also measure at measure 47 it sounds like a blob. I think we need to more confidently use the correct fingerings so every part is heard and is in tune.

  31. Violas need to be more in tune in measures 3-10. Violas are not loud enough during measures 28-30. 50-60 flow nicely together with good balance. crescendo and dicrescendo are good in measures 77 and 78.

  32. Positive: the overall piece sounds good and all the parts fit together well. Also measures 26 and 27 we’re amazing. Construction Criticism: Violas should work on dynamics more, specifically being louder at measures 28-30 and the first few measures in the beginning. Also, we need to work on cleaning up measure 90.

  33. Positive- the understanding of rhythms in this piece and overall sound has gotten much better
Constructive- we weren’t really together measures 55-61, and it’s a little difficult to hear the important part first violins have at measures 47-55

  34. violas need better intonation around 3
    violins in 61 need confidence

cellos are very strong in 70-80
violin high notes were better than other pieces
