Rehearsal Reflection
Please post comments about our rehearsal performance:
- TWO positive comments (these can be general)
- TWO constructive comments (these must be specific and include measure numbers). You may mention specific sections (cellos, violin 2, etc.).
Please include your FIRST and LAST name when you comment so I can easily assign your grade.
* melodies are good
*we were together for most of it
* did not start and play together
*dynamics could be more emphasized
Good
1. The 2nd violin’s melody is together.
2. I liked that cellos, violas, and 2nd violins were using dynamics when the 1sts had the melody.
Constructive
1. In the beginning some people in first violins had started before everyone else.
2. Dymnastics should be used more
Kourosh Jarrahi
* I think the pacing/tempo was very good especially in the first half
*The violins did a good job with the melody
*the cellos can work on using the crescendos and decrescendos in measures 1 – 47
*there is a lot of work to do on the middle specifically with the cellos intonation
I couldn’t hear the plucking from measure 9-17
We were not together measure 51-67
We started together
We were easy to hear

good comments:
-the melody for each section sounded to be all on tempo and all together with little to no imperfections
-everyone made it to the ending clearing with out anyone missing the ending attack and cut off
negative comments:
– when in the melody of the second violin the fourth finger E’s and A’s were flat
– the transition from 51 to 52 was not on tempo making it sound very mushy and cloudy sounding
-dynamics improved from before on crescendos and decrescendos.
-2nd violin plucking section was together
-we can look up and breath together
– we aren’t starting at the same times in the beginning
Everyone did a good transition from pizzicato to arco.
1st violins came in early in the first measure
Measures 25 to 48 could be more in tune and together
The dynamics sounded good especially in the beginning and the middle.
*The first violins did a pretty good job of listening and adjusting throughout
*The violas did a great job of staying together
*Firsts need to count at 28
*The first violins should work on 51-59 with a metronome
Pizzicato parts are good
Second violins did a good job at 59-66
51-67 needs work
First violins need to watch the conductor when starting melody
1. The melody was strong and in tune in measures 1-22.
2. We could focus more on the dynamics in measures 52-57.
1.The first violin pizzicato section could work on the rhythms of measures 25-48.
2. Intonation could be better measures 51-67.
I think we were mostly together
The pizzicato was good
On all the measures with dynamics could be more emphasized
Starting near 51 I thought that violins started to sound out of tune
•The first violins did good with the dynamics at the beginning (9-15)
•The cellos can be heard clearly
•The first violins need to count and/or see the conductor before starting
•Could use a little more work (clearness) on 40-67
Overall good!
– the pizzicato part was good in measures 1-49
– there was good sound
– the introduction could use some work to make it sound nicer
– we could have more dynamics
-Everyone/Every section was together
-The dynamics were good
-We can work on getting the beginning in tune (Measures 1-17)
-The first violins shifting was a little bit out of tune
– The ending was perfect
– the plucking was good
– First violins should watch carefully for when to start at measure 1.
– All sections should work on the intonation and tempo at measures 59-67.
*Everything through the beginning of the piece was mostly in tune.
*The pizzicato stayed together 26-47.
*The entrance to the pizzicato at 25 needs to be clearer.
*We could use more dynamics through the first 20 measures.
The melody parts were good
The plucking was in tune and together
Cellos need to work on the transition between plucking to bowing
All need to work on following the conductor at measure 66
-cellos did not start together
-dynamics on 49-end aren’t very noticeable
-violins were all together 1-49
-violin dynamics for 45-49 were good
-mostly in tune and if not we adjusted
-we need to look up to stay on tempo and come in together
-we need to work on crescendos and decrescendos and exaggerate them
-51-67 is the most important tike to look up
-67 we need to look up to come in together
•violins sounded good
•melodies great
•51-67 transition to pizzicato needs work
•pizzicato to quiet 1-17
firsts came in early in the start of the piece
we stayed together for most of it
dynamics are good
start of 49 sounded off for firsts
-strong melodies altogether
-pizz to arco and back transitions are smooth
-measures 51-60 need improvement
-basses need to stay together
Violins definitely work on dynamics during 1-25 and 51-67
Not the best transition to measure 49 from measure 47
Cellos sounded a tad bit out of tune on the last note
Cellos sounded very good and together for 1-48
Violins were in tune at the beginning
Some violas had good vibrato
25 is pretty together
67 going back to piz is togehter
45 is kind of out of tune
57-67 is very off
Constructive:
-in measure 1 the first violins weren’t very in tune
-violin 2 and violas can exaggerate the decrescendo more in measures 26-28
Positive:
-in measures 41-44 violins and violas were all together
-cellos played the melody very strongly in measures 67-100
Constructive: The first violins came in early for the first measure, measures 25-33 the pizzicatos didn’t support the melody and weren’t together, 49-64 the whole orchestra is not together
Positive: dynamics were way better than before, overall tone throughout the song is alright.
We need to start together and violins should work on dynamics.
We are doing good with keeping tempo and cellos are doing good with pizzicato.
Positive:
-good dynamics on pizz.
-started together at beginning
Constructive:
-cellos need to stay on tempo
-melody notes need to be in tune
