As you know, the LHS Chamber Orchestra will be performing at the KSU Orchestra Invitational on Thursday, October 26 at 7:50 PM in the Bailey Performance Center on the KSU Campus. The performance will be followed by a clinic by nationally-known educator Dr. Frank Diaz from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. The performance is free and open to the public and it would be great if you were able to make it.
For this trip, will be taking a school bus to KSU after school and eating dinner at KSU prior to our warm-up and performance. Dinner is $12.50 and includes everything students might want! (See below!)

Dinner will feature an all-you-can eat buffet at “The Commons,” KSU’s award-winning dining facility.
The dining stations include:
- Apron Strings: Southern food, including fried chicken, rolls, mac n’ cheese, collard greens, corn bread
- Piatti: pasta, pizza, garlic knots
- Dan’s Deli: sandwiches, wraps, fresh veggies and hummus, soup du jour
- Hwy 41: burgers, grilled cheese, fries, hotdogs
- Globe Trotter: various cultural foods from around the world

Our performance experience will include:
● Rehearsal and warm-up time in Scott Rehearsal Hall (in the Bailey Center adjacent to the performance stage)
● Performance on stage in Morgan Concert Hall in the Bailey Performance Center.
● Clinic with Dr. Frank Diaz, Indiana Univeristy, a nationally-recognized guest clinician immediately following performance.
● Assessments of your ensemble by guest clinician and KSU faculty via audio caption and written feedback.
● “Conductor Cam” video recording.
● High-quality audio and video recordings of the performance.
Dinner at the KSU Commons KSU has an incredible culinary program and wonderful dining experience. My former students always said that the dining was on the of the best parts of the KSU trip!
Dinner for the buffet style meal is $12.50 Per person. We will collect this prior to our trip via our website.
Chaperones/Volunteers:
We are looking for 2 chaperones who will attend the trip and ride the bus to KSU. We are also looking for a driver (with a van) who can transport 3 basses and some cellos.
About our Clinician
Dr. Frank Diaz Associate Professor, Music Education, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music
Dr. Frank M. Diaz is an associate professor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Before his appointment at IU, Dr. Diaz held appointments at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, the University of Oregon, and at school districts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He is also former Music Director and Conductor of the Corvallis Youth Symphony in Corvallis, Oregon.
Dr. Diaz has served as a conductor, adjudicator, presenter, and clinician in over 30 states as well as internationally. Ensembles under his direction have performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the National Association for Music Education, and at various conferences and honor festivals across the United States. At the university level, he has led orchestras at Indiana University, UMKC Conservatory, and Florida State University, and taught courses in instrumental music education, conducting, orchestral literature, and musicians’ wellness.
Dr. Diaz holds degrees in education, performance, and conducting from Florida State University and the University of South Florida, and has been an active performer on trombone as well as electric and double bass in wind bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, rock bands, Afro-Cuban ensembles, and various other groups throughout Florida, the Northeast, and the Pacific Northwest. He was born in Havana, Cuba and currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana with his wife, daughter, and three cats.
