Welcome to the school year 2017-18!
A Message from Your President
Greetings Fellow Orchestra Families –
Welcome back to another great year of orchestra! We are excited to start the year off right with our upcoming donut social and our rapidly approaching Fall Orchestra Camp organized by Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori, and our awesome student officers.
We have some very important FUNdraising events coming-up so please keep an eye in both our newsletter and our Facebook page for details from your Fundraising Committee Chair, Ms. Victoria Moller. Look immediately to your right of this note for our upcoming events calendar.
For those of you who attended Orchestra Registration Night last week, we appreciate your participation as we were able to get a jump-start on processing all of the paperwork we need for camps, field trips, and fees. There will be another opportunity to register at our Lassiter High School Orchestra Association Booster Club Event on Monday, August 14th at 6:30, which is a key meeting for all families as we will go over the calendar of events this year and prepare for our spring trip.
It is my hope that everyone took the opportunity to sign-up as an event volunteer. Your parent officers are deeply committed to helping Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori provide the best possible music experience for our kids, but we can’t do it all alone. There are many ways for you to help, and your help can last anywhere from a few hours, to a day, or throughout the semester – any help you can give is greatly appreciated! Please contact your V.P. of Events, Ms. Audrey Donahue to see how you can help this year.
Now, this is the part where we ask for money. Yes, there are reasons why we are known as one of the premier orchestra programs in the country; it is because of the help from our committed families and our available funds that we can provide enrichment opportunities for our students. With around 250 students in Orchestra we are at about 17% participation. We are asking for 100% participation from our orchestra families – please consider donating when you register for the LHSOA. It is with these funds that we can bring visiting clinicians for master classes, schedule field trips to the ASO, provide some specialized tools and equipment to our orchestra, an much more that is just not possible with the meager budget we receive from the county music fund. Again, any amount is helpful, and for those who wish to register at the Bronze Level or above, there are some great benefits and recognition opportunities available to you in return for your generosity – please see our website for more information on registering and donating: https://lhsoa.org/for-parents-and-students/registration. Regardless of whether you choose to make a donation, we do need for all orchestra families to register to ensure we can communicate with you and your student for concerts and events throughout the year – if you have not already registered, please register at the LHSOA Booster Club Night, or by downloading and completing the forms on the Registration page of our website and emailing them back to your parent volunteers for processing.
We need to communicate to and with you – please ensure you are on our email list, and check our Facebook Page for updates (you don’t need to have a Facebook account to see our page, just access to the Internet). Let someone know if you feel you are not receiving our newsletter (some folks are getting this because a friend has forwarded it to them), because this is the primary way we are going to communicate with families, which will come only once per week and will cut down on multiple emails throughout the year.
Please note that your parent volunteers do not become involved with any questions regarding curriculum or individual student needs. Please communicate directly with Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori at lassiterorchestras@gmail.com.
In closing please know our parent volunteers are here for you, please email the appropriate person any time to ask questions or provide opportunities for us to continue our tradition of excellence. Here is how to reach us: https://lhsoa.org/about-us/contact-us.
Here’s to a great school year!
