Rising 9th Grade Concert – an evening of beautiful music making

The Rising 9th Grade Concert was such a success! We had a wonderful night of music making with 8th graders from Mabry and Simpson Middle School in addition to our Lassiter Orchestra students. The showcase captured the progression a Middle schooler could make through the four years in High School Orchestra. All groups performed beautifully and we are excited to see that the orchestra program is not only alive but thriving and well in our cluster. Thank you to our student volunteers and our LHSOA for helping make this event a success!

Lassiter Orchestra 2nd Semester Auditions Wed, Nov 9th

2nd Semester Auditions will be held in the Lassiter Orchestra room on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, 4pm onwards. We will have adjudicators coming in to listen to the students to give feedback and assess their current skill level for placement into one of the orchestra classes for the Spring 2017 semester. Our adjudicators will only be here for one night only so it is imperative that all orchestra students audition at their designated audition time.

Any and all conflicts should be communicated with the orchestra directors. In order for all students to be placed correctly, it is vital that all students audition on November 9 so as not to delay the process of class placement.

 Field Trip

The Lassiter Orchestra has been offered a special opportunity to attend a closed rehearsal of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on November 10th.  Our students will be observing the ASO in rehearsal with Maestro Robert Spano and Concertmaster David Coucheron as soloist.  You can view the program here.

Field Trip Permission form
Please turn in the $15 for the field trip if you haven’t already.
Dress code for the trip is business casual…no jeans, t-shirts.
We are so appreciative for the long-standing support of our Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians and administration!

Michael Rosser Photography

Your student received the order form and proofs for their individual pictures last week. You may also order the pictures in black and white, but would need to indicate that on the order form.  Mr. Rosser took multiple photographs and they turned out beautifully and will make wonderful holiday gifts as well as family keepsakes.  If you have any questions, please contact Michael Rosser at Michael@MichaelRosserPhotography.com.  Order forms are due to the LHSOA dropbox by Friday, November 11th.

CPA Needed for LHSOA Financial Audit

The LHSOA Board of Directors is seeking a CPA with audit experience to perform an audit of our finances as required by our organization’s by-laws.  We would prefer to have a CPA provide this service to us pro bono, or a reduced fee so that our monies can be used for programming for the kids instead of professional services.

Please send a note expressing interest to Jonathan Warner at president@lhsoa.org.

Update on Cruise trip – next payment due Nov 11th, Trip meeting Nov 15th!

The Lassiter Orchestra Spring Cruise Trip is scheduled for March 29 – April 3, 2017.
Carnival Cruise Spring Trip Meeting Tuesday, November 15th 7pm.

For students & chaperones making this trip

It is highly recommended those traveling internationally possess a valid U.S. Passport, even though the rules require only a birth certificate and a photo ID for cruises sailing a closed circuit from the U.S. (meaning the ship departs and arrives back to the U.S. following all port calls). Having a passport will make life a lot easier if the ship needs to travel to a different port other than what is on the itinerary due to weather, or if a flight home from Nassau becomes necessary in the event of an emergency. Applying for a passport is easy and can be done online here.
It is also recommended that travelers have a passport photo taken by AAA Auto Club on Gordy Parkway, another travel agent, or a drugstore such as Walgreens or CVS for around $10. The State Department website has a self-photo tool, but it is a challenge to use and there have been instances of applications being returned due to invalid photos. For those who have a passport, please ensure it does not expire within 6 months of our return from the trip. It takes about 6 weeks to process a passport application.

Please make all checks for the trip payable to LHSOA with your child’s name in the memo and a payment coupon, and turn in to the brown drop box it in the front of the orchestra room or mail them to:
