Welcome Home Orchestra!
Wow, what a great trip! Thank you to all of our great chaperons: Ida Anderson, Doug Brophy, Lisa Hudson, Kristi McAllister, Melody McDonald, Carolyn Percher, Jerry Smith, and Susan Staviss, who gave their time and energy to ensure our kids had both an enjoyable and safe experience! Special thanks to Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori for their dedication to both our program, but especially our students – we are lucky to have both of you at Lassiter!
Orchestra Directors’ Note
We are so proud of our fabulous Lassiter Orchestras! We arrived just a few hours ago from a whirlwind trip to the Big Apple. The orchestras performed at the Heritage Music Festival in New York City. The students were wonderful ambassadors for Lassiter and represented our school so well. The Chamber I and Chamber II Orchestras received the Gold Award, Sinfonia the Silver Award, with Chamber II receiving 1st in their classification, Chamber I receiving 2nd in their classification, and Sinfonia placing 3rd in their classification. As a special honor, cellist Justin Hedderman, was selected for the Maestro Award for his outstanding performance and leadership within the ensemble.
Following their performances the students attended a performance by the amazing Attacca String Quartet who performed solely for the Lassiter Orchestra, as the violist, Nathan Schram, is a former Lassiter Orchestra member. Needless to say, this may have been the highlight of the entire trip. Attacca is an internationally-acclaimed string quartet who captivated and amazed our students with their presentation. Please ask your son/ daughter about this special event.
From there…Times Square, Broadway Shows, China Town, Radio City, we ran the gamut! And our students were absolutely fabulous. Even the bus drivers were smiling at the end of the trip about how efficiently our students organized their loading/ unloading/ cleaned the busses (they couldn’t believe there wasn’t anything to clean up!), how responsibly they made their drop-off an pick-up times (which isn’t easy on the busy streets of NYC). Needless to say, the trip was a huge success and something our students will remember for a life-time.
We are also blessed with amazing parent support! Our chaperones really made this trip possible for our orchestra with their energy, patience, and tenacity, which was the glue that held the trip together.
Again, Mr. Mori and I feel blessed every day to work with our amazing Lassiter Orchestra students. You couldn’t have made us any prouder!
Sincerely,
Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori
