Our Poinsettia Event is Underway!

Last year our poinsettia sale was one of our hugely successful fundraising events. Everyone should have downloaded the forms and started selling.  This is a great opportunity to display these lovely holiday plants in your home, office, place of worship, etc.  Your newsletter guy (that’s me) bought them for clients last year and it was an awesome way for me to show my appreciation during the holidays.  Order forms are due by Friday, Nov 20th, and the plants will be ready for pick-up on Dec 3rd. Everything you need in order to buy and participate is on our website: lhsoa.org/poinsettiasale.

We need six volunteers to assist with the distribution of the poinsettias; please contact Leah Lackey to lend a hand.

Two Upcoming Concerts Not to Be Missed!

Please join us Thursday, November 12th for the Lassiter Orchestra Solo and Ensemble evening.  Student soloists and ensembles will be performing works by Mendelssohn, Bramhs, Beethoven, Vivaldi, and much more.  This is an opportunity for students to publicly perform for their peers and community. Thursday, 11/19 the Tri-M Music Honor Society will present its Benefit Concert for our charity, “Playing for Change”.  Monies raised at this recital will benefit underprivileged children in third-world countries who do not have access to musical instruments or instruction.  We have raised over $3,000 to help this organization in past years, and hope to entertain you and raise our goal of $800 for this month’s performance.  Both concerts will be in the Lassiter Concert Hall at 7pm.  Please come out and support our wonderful young musicians!

$2 for 2 Thanksgiving Campaign

This year our orchestra has been asked to adopt a couple of families who live right here in the neighborhood and who have fallen on some hard times, unable to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner without some help.  We have decided to give $2 for 2 and are asking each member of our orchestra to bring in $2 (or more if you like) for our two families and place it in the lock box by Monday, Nov 16th.  This money will be given to our school counselor who will ensure our adopted families receive our gift.

Chicken and Tchaikovsky

Who knew the two would go so well together!  Its Chick-fil-A Spirit Nights, Nov 17th and Dec 1st, 5pm – 9pm, to benefit the Lassiter High School Orchestra.  10% of all receipts dropped-in the bucket by the customers of our new Lassiter Chick-fil-A restaurant on Shallowford Road will come directly to our orchestra.  Student and Parent Volunteers Needed:  Parents will wear their LHSO t-shirts and direct customers to drop their receipts in the buckets, and volunteer students will form ad-hoc duets, trios, or quartets and perform in the restaurant.  Please contact Ida Anderson if you can help with this activity.

Thank you DI Squared!

The Lassiter High School Orchestra would like to thank DI Squared for their generous contribution to our orchestra at the Whole Note Level.

Have You Registered Your Student Yet?

It is this time of year that we realize all we have for which we give thanks.   We are truly thankful we have a wonderful orchestra community, and that we are truly blessed to have the talents of Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori guiding our children towards their musical pursuits.  Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori have more wonderful events planned that benefit our musicians, and those events cost money.  We still do not have 100% participation from everyone in our orchestra community, so if you have not yet paid your registration fees, which cover our orchestra camps and events, please find it in your heart to make that contribution now at any level or amount most comfortable for your family.  The amounts on our webpage are suggestions, and we will accept any amount you decide you are able to give.

Please see the Registration Page on our website for additional giving opportunities and levels that come with some added benefits; and you may also find your name listed in recognition at the level which you pledged and gave.

A Night of the Classics – Monday, Dec 14th, 7pm

This popular holiday concert will once again bring the joy and spirit of the classics to our orchestra community.  Ms. Doemel and Mr. Mori are putting together what looks to be a wonderful collection of music performed by all five of our orchestras!

And, what would the holidays be without treats!  The LHSOA will host a bake sale with yummy confections provided by bakers in our community that will be sold before and after the concert to benefit our orchestra’s programming.  If you like to bake – we want you! Please contact Ida Anderson for more information on making a baked goods contribution for the concert.
